Laptop Repair - CSD Computers - 905-608-9935

We were asked to discuss the most common hardware issues that our customers bring into our business so, today we are going to discuss common laptop hardware issues. They are 1) Laptop has no power and 2) No display on my notebook screen.

1) Laptop has no power: The first thing you want to do is to check if, the notebook is on. If, that doesn’t work chances are that you need to replace your AC power adapter or notebook battery. If, replacing the AC power adapter or battery doesn’t work my suggestion is to take it to your local trusted computer technician to diagnose what the issue is because you don’t want to cause any further damage to your laptop/notebook.

2) No Display on screen. First, check if, your laptop is powered up. If, its powered up and you still don’t get any display on your screen then the most common issue is either the lcd screen needs to be replaced or the inverter needs to be replaced. I would recommend that you then take it to your local computer technician to diagnose the problem.

Generally, when the problem gets diagnosed by the computer technician depending if, it’s a major issue such as the motherboard I would then recommend getting a new notebook/laptop instead of repairing it. This all depends on how old the current notebook/laptop is.

Computer Repair - Having Issues With Your Wireless Internet Connection?

Having Issues With Your Wireless Internet Connection?

Wired versus Wireless that is a common question I receive at our place of business. My answer is that it depends. What I mean by this is that not all wireless internet connections are made equal.

If, you’re having issues with your wireless internet connection it can be because a number of things such as your hardware, computer or the internet network you’re with and the location of your residence. I suggest you call your local internet company and diagnose your internet connection with their technical support team before you decide to make any major changes to your computer hardware.

Then if, that doesn’t solve your problems I would consider replacing your wireless card and or upgrade your wireless router to the latest version. In the case you do this and still have issues with your wireless connection I suggest you do what I did which is to go back to wired.

Going back to a wired internet connection can be aesthetically frustrating and not as convenient for moving around within your primary residence or workplace but the reliability will be worth it. This will be very beneficial to people who depend on their connection for their business or school where time can be of the essence.

Sometimes, your geographic location can influence your internet connection so, no matter what hardware changes you make to try to improve your wireless connection it will still not be as reliable as you need or expect it to be. In this case I would recommend going back to a wired internet connection.

How To Protect Your Computer From Virus/Pop-Ups On A Budget?

We receive numerous questions from budget conscious consumers on how to reduce spam/virus attack on their computers? Most tell me that they are on a budget and can’t afford to purchase internet security software so; this is what I tell them.

I initially, first ask them to pay attention to what files, website or programs are they using or visiting when their computer system freezes or all those pop-ups start to pop up. Then, the obvious thing would be to avoid those programs, websites or file downloads.

When they get multiple pop-ups that they don’t want I will suggest to them to close the pop-up window not by pointing their mouse on the X on the pop-up window but to right-click on their mouse and close the window that way. Numerous pop-up/viruses are activated once you close the pop-up window via pointing your mouse on the X and closing the pop-up window/virus that way.

For people on a tight budget there are two free things that you can use that will help protect you against viruses, they are 1) using Mozilla Firefox browser and 2) using the free AVG (free internet security/anti-virus program).

Using Mozilla Firefox browser instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer will greatly enhance your browsing safety and I find that it’s more secure. Then for those of you who don’t want or can’t afford to purchase internet security/anti-virus software I would suggest to download the free AVG internet security/anti-virus program.

These downloads can be found by typing “Mozilla Firefox” or “AVG” into your search engine.

Don't have the funds to buy a new computer? You got options!

I get a lot of people coming into the business asking me for a cheap used system. As an alternative I recommend purchasing an upgrade bundle.

You may ask what is an upgrade bundle? Some stores may differ on its contents but it generally is a motherboard/CPU/memory package that you can purchase and install to upgrade your computer.

They usually are priced between $150 - $250 range depending on the store but for an affordable and effective alternative to getting a new computer system an upgrade bundle is highly recommended.

Buying A Computer? Where To Start?

Many people have been asking me what to look for when buying a new computer. My response is to ask them “what will they be using the computer for?” Most times they then shrug their shoulders and give me a funny look. The main point is to first ask yourself how you are going to be using this computer.

There is a difference. A person that is going to play high end PC video games is going to require a vastly different system compared to the person that’s doing the regular computer usage (browsing, paying bills online and just checking their email). This is the key, figure out what you’re using the computer system for before you purchase your computer system.

The second key point I give is to have a clear budget set aside for your personal computer purchase. I’ve heard plenty of stories of people going to buy a computer without a budget come out of the store with a computer that has cost them $1,000 - $2,000 when a $500 computer system would have suited their needs just fine.

Now, comes the ultra exciting part of choosing your computer hardware components. There are too many variables to discuss within this post (CPU, hard drive, motherboard, memory, video card…etc) but you may want to ask yourself these questions; do I store a lot of (music, videos, and pictures)? Do I want to have a motherboard that allows me to increase my memory or CPU in the future? What are the minimum system requirements for computer applications I will be using on this computer?

This may sound a bit confusing but if, you’re conscious of these points it will help you purchase the most effective computer system for your personal or business use and it will help you purchase the computer at better price point.

Computer Repairs Mississauga – CSD Computers

Hello Y’all,

Today’s topic of discussion is related to a computer having no power.

We get a large number of personal and business computers that have no power. Most of the time this is caused by a defective or broken power supply. I will discuss from our experience the main causes of this.

Other than the power supply just running its course there are two main triggers to brake your power supply. 1) Dust(dirt, hair, animal hair) and 2) Low or High voltage electrical surges.

The ways to prevent these triggers is for Dust is to clean your power supply refer to this previous post

1) To deal with the low or high voltage electrical surges I would suggest to purchase a UPS(uninteruptable power supply) for you computer system.

2) The benefit of having a UPS is that it will keep your power supply in your computer from crashing or losing power during power outages, and will protect your computer power supply from low and high voltage occurrences.

Follow these two tips and this will help you maintain a healthy computer.
